CREW INSPECTS SHUTTLE AFTER LAUNCH, HEADS FOR SPACE STATION CREW INSPECTS SHUTTLE AFTER LAUNCH, HEADS FOR SPACE STATION - As they head toward a rendezvous with the international space station, crew members of the space shuttle Endeavour are checking for any signs of damage after Monday's early morning launch. Tuesday's routine inspection includes checks of the shuttle's protective thermal tiles. Cameras and lasers capture views of the shuttle's exterior, which NASA will inspect on Earth for any damage sustained during launch. The shuttle will dock with the space station just after 12 a.m. Wednesday.    More

SHUTTLE ENDEAVOUR BLASTS OFF FOR SPACE STATION SHUTTLE ENDEAVOUR BLASTS OFF FOR SPACE STATION - The space shuttle Endeavour thundered into orbit into the predawn sky on Monday. It was the second attempt to launch the Endeavour, 24 hours after Sunday’s attempt was scrubbed because of clouds over the launching pad. Clouds again encroached, but there were enough holes to allow the Endeavour to lift off on schedule at 4:14 a.m., a bright streak rising to the northeast along the East Coast. It was the 130th launching of a shuttle and likely the last night launching as the program winds down and ends after another four flights.    More

Known as GOES-P (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-P), the satellite was developed by NASA for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA. Endeavour is poised to blast off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Sunday morning at 4:39 a.m. EST to deliver a brand-new room and observation portal to the International Space Station. STATION CREW PREPARES FOR DOCKING STATION CREW PREPARES FOR DOCKING - The ISS Progress 36 (P36) unpiloted spacecraft launched at 10:45 p.m. EST Tuesday (9:45 a.m. Wednesday, Baikonur time), loaded with 1,940 pounds of propellant, 106 pounds of oxygen and air, 926 pounds of water and 2,683 pounds of spare parts and supplies. On Thursday shortly before 11:30 p.m., P36 will dock automatically to the aft port of the Zvezda service module of the International Space Station using the Kurs docking system.    More

IRAN LAUNCHES ROCKET CARRYING ANIMALS INTO ORBIT - Iran has launched a rocket into orbit carrying what state-owned Al-Alam televison report as an "experimental capsule". The Kavoshgar 3 (Explorer) rocket is reportedly carrying a capsule with live animals including a rat, turtles and worms. Footage shown on state television shows the rocket being fired from a launch pad. President Ahmadinejad praised the launch of the satellite and the progress his country was making in its space programme.    More
