A Soyuz rocket climbed away from the Baikonur Cosmodrome carrying the international space station's first female commander, a veteran Russian cosmonaut who commanded an earlier expedition and Malaysia's first space flier. If all goes well, Soyuz commander Yuri Malenchenko will oversee an automated docking with the space station Friday morning around 10:52 a.m., assisted by incoming Expedition 16 commander Peggy Whitson. The third crew member, Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, is a Malaysian physician flying as a guest of the Russian government as part of a fighter jet sale to the island nation.
